Oliver Cromwell was born in Huntingdon in 1599.
Originally a staging post, in 1574 The George Hotel in Huntingdon was named after St George and was later bought by hte grandfather of Oliver Cromwell. In 1645 The George became the headquarters of Charles I and later it was frequented by highwayman, Dick Turpin.
There is a medieval bridge in the town, which was used as a connection to Ermine Street.
