St Neots Fact File
St Neots is the largest town in Cambridgeshire as Cambridge and Peterborough, although being bigger, are classed as cities.
The town gains its name from St. Neot, a Cornish monk, whose bones were stolen from the village of St Neot on Bodmin Moor and concealed in the nearby priory of the same name. The town grew around the Norman priory.
In 1130, the town was granted a market charter. St Neots prospered through trade from pilgrims. The town prospered further through brewing, corn milling and stagecoaching in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The advent of the railways also expaneded the town.
